Think you're "unphotogenic"? As an experienced portrait photographer, I'm here to tell you you're not.
Did you know there's actually a receipt for getting a good photo that professional photographers are very good at blending together? And it really has nothing to do with a person being "photogenic".
Just like a master chef we know the right ingredients, the right amount to use, plus we have impeccable timing. And voila! Your photo has been expertly prepared just for you!
I'm actually going to tell you what it is right now so you can DIY it. Here's what you're going to do...
First, let's start with you asking yourself what do I want people to know about me and try to convey that in your pictures. Do I want to be seen as fun, serious, smart, friendly, sexy, joyful, etc. This will make sure that the feel of your picture matches with your brand.
Then you will have to chose the right outfit, find a pleasing location that is also photogenic, find the most flattering light, know the best angles to shoot yourself in, all the while coaching yourself on your expressions and body language.
Don't forget to click the button at the most perfect time to capture it all.
Was there a delay when you pressed the button and you blinked? Was it over exposed because the "smartphone camera" didn't know where to focus? Was there a garbage can in the background that you didn't notice?
Shoot. Maybe you'll get it right on the 20th attempt. But, it's now 7:45PM and the sun has gone so, bye bye natural light.
Also, how in the heck are you supposed to do all this with a phone that is also a computer, a calendar, an alarm clock, map and encyclopedia?
That's like expecting to get salon quality results at home with a bottle of All-In-One Pantene and a CVS hair dryer. Sure you can attempt it, and it might be good enough, but wouldn't you just rather leave all that to the pro's who do this for a living?
Let's put down the phone/computer/camera and let me photograph you. I have been photographing people (not buildings, objects, or landscapes, but actual people) for over 10 years and I'm really good at it. Please see all the examples I have placed in this post.

Again, you can attempt to do this all for yourself, but why should you when there is a portrait photographer in your town that can do this easily, painlessly, creatively and with professionalism? It's my job!
